Audit reports are among the most important sources of information for investors in capital markets. However, beyond their informational content, the wording and tone employed in these reports may also influence users’ perceptions and decision-making processes. Non-professional investors, due to their limited specialized knowledge and greater reliance on emotional factors, may be particularly sensitive to the tone of financial and audit reports. Therefore, examining the effect of audit report tone on the emotional reactions and investment decisions of this group of investors is of considerable importance. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the effect of audit report tone on the emotional reactions and investment decisions of non-professional investors in the Iranian capital market. Specifically, the study examined how positive, negative, and neutral tones in audit reports influence investors’ emotions and investment behavior. This study was applied in terms of its objective and employed a descriptive-survey research design. Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale. The statistical population consisted of non-professional investors active in the Iranian capital market, from whom 150 participants were selected through convenience sampling. Data were analyzed using SPSS software, employing correlation and regression analyses. The findings revealed that audit report tone had a statistically significant effect on the emotional reactions and investment decisions of non-professional investors. Furthermore, a positive tone increased investors’ confidence and willingness to invest, whereas a negative tone heightened concerns and reduced investment intentions. In contrast, a neutral tone encouraged more rational investment decision-making.
